What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a school of medicine founded over 200 years ago by Samuel Hahnemann. Its primary philosophy is “like cures like”. It treats the whole person, rather than the disease, recognizing the body, mind, and spirit. Homeopathy employs energetic remedies that stimulate a person’s Vital Force, which is described to be the energy that animates all living beings.
Like cures like is referred to as the law of similar. This is based on the fact that a plant, animal, or mineral, taken in its crude form, will produce certain symptoms in a healthy person. The same plant, animal, mineral taken in a diluted form will bring about the cure of those same symptoms in a person whose health is out of balance.
A homeopath will assess a case by looking for the characteristic symptoms which are the unusual, strange, or rare symptom that gives the case its unique character, along with the common symptoms that are found in common with a particular illness. They will use the characteristic symptoms to help find the simillimum or the “most similar” remedy that corresponds to a case. This remedy will be the one that most closely matches the totality of the case.
Homeopathy follows Hering’s Law of Cure which is that the body heals from the inside out, from the top down, and in the reverse order of how the symptoms appeared.
